Digital X-Ray

Dental X-rays (also called radiographs) are an important diagnostic tool and an integral part of regular dental maintenance. X-rays reveal conditions that are not evident from visual examination alone, such as hidden decay, abscesses, tumors, and cysts. They not only help determine the condition of teeth and bones, but of supporting devices as well such as fillings, crowns, implants, and bridges. This in turn aids in determining the best course of treatment for a patient.

Aspen Dental Group is pleased to be using digital x-rays rather film x-rays. Digital x-rays offer the following advantages:

  • Can be viewed immediately as an image on a screen display device rather than being developed.

  • Eliminate the chemical waste associated with film processing.

  • Are easily stored as files on computer media.

  • These files can be easily shared with other dentists off-site.

  • Digital x-ray sensors are more sensitive than those for film thus allowing the use of even less radiation, making radiation exposure almost negligible.

  • Images are higher resolution.

  • Images can be enlarged,  color-enhanced, and brightness and contrast optimized to aid in diagnosis.

  • Images can be manipulated to supply more information. One example is subtraction radiography where a current image is compared to an older one and everything that is the same is removed. This produces an image having only the differences between the original images.  This can catch small differences that would be difficult to see with just visual inspection of the images.

Digital X-rays are just one more way Aspen Dental Group does its best for patients!
