Sedation Aspen Dental Group believes in making the patient as comfortable as possible! Traditional sedation and anesthesia is available for most procedures, and is all most people need to be comfortable. The Dentists of Aspen Dental Group are also proud to offer IV Sedation as a means to make these procedures easier for their patients. IV Sedation is a relatively new development in treatment, extremely safe and reliable, and can reduce or eliminate anxiety associated with dental procedures. This is perfect for our patients needing multiple procedures, or patients who are unusually nervous during dental work. IV Sedation causes the patient to enter a 'dream-like' state without falling asleep. No discomfort is felt, and best of all, most people have no memory at all of the procedures! IV Sedation as done by Aspen Dental Group is when a drug of the anti-anxiety variety is administered intravenously during dental treatment. Although this type of sedation is sometimes referred to as "twilight sleep" or "sleep dentistry", the patient is not only conscious but lucid and can respond to questions from the dentist. However, between being in a very deep state of relaxation and the fact that the drug produces memory loss from the time it kicks in till it wears off, time feels like it passes very quickly and the patient does not remember much if anything. IV Sedation is allows lengthy or multiple procedures to be completed in a single visit. People who have difficulty getting numb usually have no problem when relaxed under sedation. IV Sedation is extremely safe when carried out under the supervision of one of our specially-trained dentists. Most patients do not experience any negative side effects. Those that do have the minor side effects consistent with sedatives and minor surgical procedures, such as drowsiness, disorientation, and nausea. And of course anyone that has been sedated will need to be driven home and watched until the effects of the sedation are completely gone. There are certain situations where IV Sedation should not be used, including pregnancy, known allergies to the sedation drugs, alcohol intoxication, CNS depression, and some instances of glaucoma. Situations that may not be suitable for IV Sedation include psychosis, impaired lung or kidney or liver function, and advanced age. Heart disease is generally not a problem. Aspen Dental Group is fully qualified to answer any questions you may have. Contact
